Women Provincial Leaders of Iraq

Tour Access Montgomery Television

Iraqi Women Visit Access Montgomery Television

The 15-member Iraqi Women’s Provincial Leaders delegation toured Access Montgomery Television (AMTV) in Rockville, Maryland on Friday March 19, 2010.  These women are currently in Washington, D.C. to attend a conference program and participate in a cultural exchange of ideas on public service between the U.S. and Iraq. Their trip is sponsored by the U. S. Secretary of State’s Office of Global Women’s Issues.

The group toured AMTV’s facilities and learned about public access television in the U.S.  They participated in mock interviews and observed a green screen demonstration by AMTV’s staff.

"As AMTV was the group's one media stop during their long stay in DC, we served as a key resource for the group as they go back home to advance the cause of freedom and open dialogue in Iraq.”  Merlyn Reineke, AMTV’s Executive Director said.

The tour was facilitated by AMTV volunteer, Nelson Figueroa-Velez, an attorney for the Iraqi Embassy.

Access Montgomery Television (AMTV) is Montgomery County’s only non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and sponsoring television programming and broadband media that meets community needs and offers forums for free expression.  This year AMTV is celebrating 25 years of successfully educating, informing and entertaining county viewers.  AMTV has also trained thousands of county residents in its television production classes.

AMTV reaches over 250,000 households in Montgomery County through cable TV on AMTV 19 and 21. Live 24-hour video streaming and video archiving is also made available on www.accessmontgomery.tv.
